Viva
Mexico!!!! Mexico is where you can get a
deep breath of Old World (Spanish) style, culture and art and not have to
travel across the ocean. And at least 1/3 less cost. The colonial architecture is everywhere and
glorious. Every city and town has a main square, zocalo, plaza de (something) ,
el jardin across from the biggest, boldest, oldest, most ornate church in town.
This is the social center where all the locals (and tourist and ex-pats) sit and mingle on
long wrought iron benches in the shade of manicured trees covering most of the
sitting area and there is usually a large gazebo in the middle.
Visit
the mercados centrales (every town has one and the cities have many) and see an
overwhelming variety of fruits, meats, fish, vegetables, etc laid out in display,
unpackaged, fresh and available at affordable prices for all.
Most
of these photos were taken as I drove a
rented car around the country doing up to two week road trips. The roads are
pretty good but watch out for the ubiquitous
"topes" - speed bumps which are why you cannot speed around Mexico except
on the newer toll roads. Taking your time is the only way to go in Mexico.
You're
on vacation. And the beer is always quite cold.
