Having
already seen 2 total eclipses of the sun (Turkey 2006 and Oregon 2017) I
decided a trip down to Chile was definitely in order for the eclipse on 2 July
2019. The path of totality tracked
through the beach resort town of La Serena, Chile, which is about 300 miles
north of the capital of Santiago.
Besides the
eclipse, the trip afforded a chance to see Santiago, Valparaiso and Mendoza,
Argentina.
The trip ended with a bus ride through the Andes Mountains in the shadow
of Mount Aconcagua, the highest peak in the western hemisphere.
The
photographic highlight of the journey was the amazing building murals of
Valparaiso.
